THE FINAL THREE: The Interchanges That Could Complete CALAX
Kawit
The Cavite–Laguna Expressway is entering one of its most important stages. With much of the main alignment already taking shape, attention is now turning to the three remaining interchanges that will determine how effectively CALAX connects with Cavite’s busiest roads and fastest-growing communities. At Governor’s Drive in General Trias, partial operations are already in place while work continues on the remaining sections. Once fully completed, the interchange will strengthen access between CALAX and one of Cavite’s most important east–west corridors. The significance is not simply that another interchange is opening—it is that every completed connection reduces the distance between communities, business districts, industrial zones, and the larger expressway network that ties Cavite to the rest of Southern Luzon.
Further along the route, the Open Canal Interchange will serve the border areas of Imus and General Trias, where major residential communities, commercial developments, and new townships continue to expand. Its location gives it the potential to become one of CALAX’s most useful access points for daily commuters and nearby businesses. Then comes Kawit Interchange, arguably the most strategic of the three, because it will connect CALAX directly to the CAVITEX–CALAX Link. Once operational, motorists heading toward Metro Manila will be able to transfer between expressways with fewer local-road bottlenecks and less dependence on congested intersections. This is where infrastructure begins to change more than travel time: when roads connect seamlessly, entire growth corridors become easier to reach, easier to develop, and more attractive to people and investment.
The finish line may be getting closer, but the final kilometers often carry the greatest importance. Completing these interchanges means more than pouring concrete and opening ramps; it means closing the gaps that have kept Cavite’s road network from functioning as one continuous system. Behind every bridge, viaduct, and interchange are the engineers, construction workers, and project teams turning years of planning into physical connectivity. Governor’s Drive, Open Canal, and Kawit are not just the last three interchanges of CALAX—they are the pieces that could finally make the expressway feel complete. And when that happens, the real measure of success will not be the ribbon-cutting. It will be the moment motorists realize that moving across Cavite has become noticeably
