Why Fashion and Culture Brands Are Building Cafés, Restaurants, and Places to Stay Longer
Manila
A strong brand increasingly does more than sell a product—it builds a place people can spend time in. Ralph Lauren is one of the clearest global examples: the company describes hospitality as a natural extension of its lifestyle world, with restaurants such as The Polo Bar in New York, Ralph’s in Paris, RL Restaurant in Chicago, and Ralph’s Coffee locations in several cities.
The same idea is becoming more visible in Metro Manila. Silverlens has expanded into Silverlens Den, adding food, coffee, cocktails, and exhibitions to its Makati art space, while Signet Café brings Japanese and Japanese-European café culture into The Signet Store at Opus Mall. In each case, hospitality gives customers another way to experience the brand beyond simply making a purchase.
Café Salcedo, created around the world of Salcedo Auctions, takes that idea in a more cultural direction. Salcedo Auctions was founded in 2010 and continues to operate from NEX Tower in Makati under its long-running “The Well-Appointed Life” philosophy. The café translates that curatorial approach into coffee, interiors, and storytelling, with drinks sometimes linked to art and cultural collaborations. In 2026, Café Salcedo worked with UNIQLO Philippines on the Ube Kome Cloud, combining Bohol ube, rice-based milk, and coconut as part of a program marking 70 years of Philippines-Japan relations. The collaboration shows how food can become a more approachable entry point into ideas that might otherwise live mainly in galleries, auctions, or retail displays.
What these concepts have in common is not simply coffee. They turn a brand’s visual language, values, and community into a physical experience people can revisit. A menswear store can become a place to eat and talk; an auction house can turn art into a conversation over drinks; a gallery can invite visitors to linger after viewing an exhibition. That does not mean every brand needs a café, nor does hospitality automatically make a brand more meaningful. But when the food, design, and service genuinely reflect what the company already stands for, the extension can feel less like merchandising and more like world-building. For customers, that often means the most memorable part of the brand is no longer only what they take home, but the time they spend inside it.
