There has been no prompt response from Mr. Gandhi, Mr. Kharge, or the Congress party regarding this issue.

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has sent a letter to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of breaching security protocols during his overseas trips.

In the correspondence, which was also directed to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday, CRPF VVIP Security Chief Sunil June claimed that Mr. Gandhi was not treating his security arrangements "with the seriousness they deserve" as he frequently traveled abroad "without notifying anyone".

The CRPF official highlighted Mr. Gandhi's international visits to locations such as Italy (from December 30 to January 9), Vietnam (from March 12 to 17), Dubai (from April 17 to 23), Qatar (from June 11 to 18), London (from June 25 to July 6), and Malaysia (from September 4 to 8). The letter indicated that the Rae Bareli MP is contravening the protocols outlined in the Yellow Book of the CRPF.

There has been no immediate response from Mr. Gandhi, Mr. Kharge, or the Congress party concerning this issue.

Mr. Gandhi, who previously served as the Congress president, currently receives Z+ category security with Advanced Security Liaison (ASL). Z+ ASL represents one of the highest levels of protection afforded to individuals with a significant threat perception, involving approximately 55 security personnel, including commandos from the National Security Guard.

Under ASL, security personnel perform preliminary reconnaissance of locations to be visited by their VIP in collaboration with local police and intelligence agencies.

This is not the first instance of the CRPF addressing concerns to Mr. Gandhi regarding his security arrangements. In 2022, the CRPF reported that the Congress leader had breached security guidelines on 113 occasions since 2020, including during the Delhi segment of the party's Bharat Jodo Yatra.

In 2023, the Congress party raised concerns regarding security measures during the Kashmir segment of the Yatra, following an unexpected large turnout to welcome Mr. Gandhi upon his arrival in the Valley. According to his party associates, Mr. Gandhi found himself surrounded by the crowd and was unable to move for approximately 30 minutes.

A few days prior, the Congress had addressed a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, claiming "security breaches" during the Bharat Jodo Yatra as it entered the national capital on December 24.

Last month, during a security incident, Mr. Gandhi was riding a two-wheeler while taking part in a 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar when an unknown individual unexpectedly embraced him and kissed his shoulder. As the Congress leader attempted to maintain his balance on the two-wheeler, security personnel swiftly intervened, forcefully removing the intruder.

In 2019, the Union government rescinded the Special Protection Group (SPG) security detail that had been provided to Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and her children, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, for nearly thirty years. This security arrangement was substituted with protection from the CRPF.
