Car dealerships typically finalize insurance procedures prior to delivery, with the premium being the responsibility of the buyer.

New Delhi:

On Monday evening, a brand-new Mahindra Thar fell from the first floor of a showroom in Delhi after its owner inadvertently pressed the accelerator during a delivery ceremony.

The event occurred at Mahindra's Nirman Vihar location, where 29-year-old Maani Pawar had come to pick up her SUV. Before departing, she conducted a traditional pooja, which included placing a lemon beneath the tire. Instead of moving forward gently, she accelerated, crashing through the glass and landing on the pavement.

The vehicle, valued at nearly Rs 27 lakh, sustained significant damage, raising numerous questions regarding who will incur the financial burden.

Insurance Likely to Cover Vehicle Damages

Car dealerships typically handle insurance formalities before the vehicle is delivered, with the premium covered by the buyer. Consequently, the policy is in effect when the car exits the showroom.

Most new vehicles are sold with zero-depreciation (zero-dep) insurance, which guarantees that the full cost of repairs, whether for minor scratches or major structural damage, will be reimbursed by the insurer. The customer is only responsible for a minimal processing or filing fee.

This indicates that Ms. Pawar's Thar is likely to be protected under her insurance policy, and the insurance company will cover the majority of the repair costs.

Insurance typically pertains solely to the vehicle itself, not to third-party property. Therefore, the Mahindra showroom may still pursue compensation from the customer for damages inflicted on its glass panels and infrastructure.
