The opposition left the Rajya Sabha, calling for a debate on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar; meanwhile, the INDIA bloc parties are contemplating an impeachment motion against CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
The Indian Ports Bill, 2025 was approved by the House of Elders on Monday, with no Opposition members in attendance. The former organized a walkout earlier in the day, calling for a conversation about the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar. Earlier today, the Upper House suspended its session until 2 p.m. following protests from Opposition members after Deputy Chairman Harivansh declined to accept all notices under Rule 267 requesting a discussion on multiple issues.
In the Lok Sabha, a special discussion occurred regarding Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla’s mission to the International Space Station.
The parties in the INDIA coalition stated they are contemplating a motion to impeach Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The choice was made during the INDIA bloc floor leaders' meeting on Monday (August 18, 2025).
Following a near collapse over the Opposition's request for a debate on the Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls in Bihar—rejected by the government—during the latest four sessions of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, the government has now scheduled a “special discussion on India’s first astronaut at the International Space Station and the important role of the space program for a Viksit Bharat by 2047” in the Lok Sabha agenda for Monday (August 18, 2025)
