Big B reminisced about how he spent his initial paycheck during his time in Kolkata. He mentioned, “I had considered buying a saree for my mother and a watch for my father. At that time, I was employed in Kolkata. Once I received my paycheck, I took a day off from work and headed home. I boarded a train, and upon arriving home, I handed the saree to my mother and the watch to my dad.

Recounting the theft of the watch, Amitabh Bachchan remarked, “I believed my father would be pleased when he opened the box." However, when he opened the box, the watch was not there. I discovered that I would share a room with 5-6 other boys and the house helper took it. I can't say I wasn't really distressed that day. I vowed to myself to put in so much effort that I could purchase my father not just one, but ten watches.
