Story/Experience
First Solo Commute
Valenzuela
My first long solo commute in the Philippines felt like a small adventure. What seemed like a simple trip on a map became a lesson in reading signs, checking routes, asking for directions, and keeping track of where I was going. At first, I was nervous about getting on the wrong vehicle or missing my stop.
Eventually, I realized that commuting becomes easier when you prepare beforehand. Checking the route, saving important locations, bringing enough fare, and having a charged phone made the journey less stressful. I also learned that asking someone politely for directions is nothing to be embarrassed about. Most commuters have experienced being lost at some point.
The experience gave me more confidence. It reminded me that independence does not always come from huge achievements. Sometimes, it starts with something as simple as successfully reaching your destination on your own. For students and young people who are learning to commute independently, every trip can become a little lesson in confidence and responsibility.
